Care instructions

Care instructions for your jewelry

Our jewelry pieces accompany you through everyday life, on travels, and during special moments. To ensure you enjoy your favorite piece for a long time, here you will find information on the materials used and their care.

Waxed Polyester Yarn

For many of our macrame jewelry pieces, trenzas, anklets, and chokers, we use high-quality waxed polyester yarn.

This material is particularly durable, water-repellent, and suitable for everyday use. It remains beautiful for a long time even with regular wear and is excellently suited for jewelry pieces that can accompany you every day.

Care

  • Waterproof and water-repellent

  • Can be worn in everyday life without problems

  • Clean with a little water and mild soap if necessary

  • Then air dry

Due to sunlight, water, friction, and daily wear, the yarn may soften slightly or lose some color over time. This is part of the natural development of a worn piece of jewelry.

Brass

Brass captivates with its warm gold tone and natural radiance. Our brass jewelry pieces contain only 0.006% nickel, which is significantly below the EU limit.

Brass is a living material and may darken slightly over time or develop a natural patina. This is not a defect but part of its character.

Care

Brass is easy to clean:

  • Polish with a paste of flour, salt, and vinegar

  • Then rinse with water and a little soap

  • Dry with a soft cloth

For some people, brass, especially in rings, can occasionally leave greenish marks on the skin. This depends on individual factors such as skin type, sweat, or cosmetic products and is harmless to health.

We love brass for its warm gold tone, its naturalness, and its fair price-performance ratio.

Gold-plated Brass

For our gold-plated jewelry pieces, brass forms the base. Depending on the piece of jewelry, the material is either directly gold-plated or first refined with a thin layer of silver and then gold-plated with 24-carat gold. This creates the warm gold tone that makes our gold-plated designs so special.

The gold plating gives the jewelry its elegant appearance and beautifully showcases natural stones, symbols, and fine details.

Care

To ensure the gold plating remains beautiful for as long as possible, we recommend:

  • Removing jewelry before showering, bathing, and swimming

  • Avoiding direct contact with perfume, sunscreen, and cosmetics

  • Storing jewelry dry and protected

  • Cleaning with a soft cloth

Over time, the gold plating may become a little duller. This natural aging process is part of the life of a worn piece of jewelry.

Note on clasps & connecting elements

Gold-plated clasps, jump rings, and small metal parts are exposed to daily wear and tear. Depending on wearing habits, skin contact, and external influences, the gold plating may change or fade slightly over time.

Should this be the case with your Elmare jewelry piece, you are welcome to contact us at any time. We will gladly check if we can replace or renew the affected elements so that you can continue to enjoy your jewelry.

Sterling Silver 925

Sterling silver consists of 92.5% pure silver and is one of the most popular jewelry materials ever. It is timeless, durable, and versatile.

Care

Silver can react with oxygen and darken over time. This is completely normal.

Suitable for cleaning are:

  • A silver polishing cloth

  • A silver dip

  • A special silver cleaner

After cleaning, silver regains its original shine.

Silver Plated

Silver-plated jewelry has a fine silver-toned finish that gives it a cool, timeless shine. Depending on the piece, different base materials may be used.

The silver-plated finish beautifully highlights natural stones, special textures and delicate details and gives the jewelry its characteristic silver appearance.

Care

To keep the silver-plated surface beautiful for as long as possible, we recommend:

  • Avoiding contact with perfume, creams and cosmetics whenever possible
  • Removing jewelry before showering, bathing or swimming
  • Avoiding contact with chlorine and salt water
  • Storing jewelry in a dry and protected place
  • Gently wiping the surface with a soft, dry cloth when needed

Please do not use aggressive cleaning products or abrasive silver polishing cloths, as these may damage the silver-plated surface.

Over time, the silver plating may change slightly through skin contact, moisture and friction. This natural aging process is part of the life of a worn piece of jewelry.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is particularly robust, easy to care for, and waterproof. Many of our chains, clasps, and connecting elements are made of high-quality stainless steel.

The material is hypoallergenic, does not tarnish, and is excellently suited for daily use. Especially for people with sensitive skin, stainless steel is a popular and uncomplicated choice.

Care

  • Waterproof and suitable for everyday use

  • Clean with water and a soft cloth

  • Use a little mild soap if necessary

  • Then polish dry

Natural & Semi-precious Stones

Each stone is a small unique piece of nature. Color, structure, and pattern can vary slightly and make each piece of jewelry unique.

Many people associate natural stones with certain qualities or energies. If you wish, you can occasionally consciously clean and recharge your stones.

Ways to Clean & Recharge

  • In moonlight, especially during a full moon

  • Briefly in the morning or evening sun (not every stone tolerates intense sun)

  • With cold, clear water (only for water-compatible stones)

  • By smudging with sage, Palo Santo, or herbs

  • On a rock crystal or amethyst geode

After cleaning, you can consciously connect your stone with an intention. Hold it in your hand for a moment and give it a thought or wish that you would like to accompany you currently – for example, more trust, serenity, self-love, or clarity.

Jewelry lives with you

Jewelry is a daily companion and reacts to environmental influences, skin contact, cosmetics, and movement. Small scratches, dull spots, or changes over time are part of its natural development.

These traces tell your personal story and make each piece of jewelry a very individual companion.
